Make Back-to-School Clothing Last
About.com Back to School | August 30, 2008
The kids always look so cute in their new back-to-school clothes: boys neatly dressed in bright tees and fresh jeans, girls in adorable outfits complete with matching accessories. After a few weeks, jeans start to fray around the hems, tennies turn the color of playground dust and tee shirts start to fade. Here are a few ways to keep clothes looking new longer:
- Extend the life of jeans by hemming them so they don’t touch the ground (which many of the jeans seem to do).
- Keep dark wash jeans looking fresh longer by washing them in cold water with a detergent made for dark colors.
- Pretreat every kids’ shirt with a prewash: greasy little hands leave invisible stains that you might not see until you take the items out of the laundry.
